Mike Mansch has been involved in racing since 1993 when he began as a pit crew member for Shannon’s Late Model Pro-4 and Mini Stock.

As the owner of Freeport Automotive Service Center in Sacramento, Mike Mansch has racing in his blood; he couldn’t wait for the delivery room and was born in his father’s car as they raced to the hospital. Mike has been in the automotive business his entire life; racing is an extension of that passion for automobiles. Mike started in the automotive business when he was 18 years old, working at a gas station in Sacramento.

A typical day at the race track for Mike is a hard one, as he is not only the driver but crew chief for both his and Shannon’s cars. First there are the Hot Laps, which are two ten minute practice sessions giving him a chance to get his car set up. Next is Qualifying, he takes two laps on the clock which determines his qualifying time and starting position in the races; then the Trophy Dash, typically a 4-6 lap competition between the quickest 4-6 cars; and finally the Main Event – approximately 20 cars compete in the race, which can be anywhere from 35 to 100 laps.

Mike started racing in 1995 at All American Speedway in Roseville. His first race was an Enduro, which he finished first. He also raced a Street Stock for the later part of 1995 and 1996, having multiple wins and fast times.

In 1997 Mike raced in several Street Stock events and started late in the season with his new Pro Stock.

In 1998 Mike raced the full Pro Stock series in his White Chevrolet Lumina. Mike had 1 win, four 2nd, four 3rd place finishes with 10 top 5’s, 12 top 10’s, 5 fast times, 3 heat wins and 1 dash win.

1999 to 2003, Mike raced multiple tracks in the Pro Stock/Late Model, including Ukiah, Stockton, Carson City, Altamont and Anderson.

The year 2004 brought a change for Mike when he was given the opportunity to drive the #1 SRL car owned by Bob Strandwold for a limited number of races.

In April 2005, Mike raced the inaugural WestCar Late Model race at All American Speedway in Roseville. He qualified 5th and finished in 8th place. He also raced several other of the WestCar races at different tracks during the year. Saturday, July 23rd saw Mike earn his first WestCar victory, dominating that nights 100 Lap race at All American Speedway in Roseville, his home track.

2006 was quite the year for Mike. He not only raced a limited number of SRL races, he was Crew Chief for Shannon during her successful WestCar Championship run.

In 2007 Mike raced a limited number of Late Model races, but was also the Consultant for Bob Strandwold Racing as well as being responsible for maintaining the #1 SRL driven to the Championship by Dave Byrd.

In 2008 Mike will be racing the Nascar Whelen All-American Series in the 9M car.

Mike lives in Roseville and is married to fellow driver, Shannon Mansch.

In his off time, Mike enjoys helping his friends with their racing and working on their cars.  He also enjoys flying and started taking lessons from CFI, located at Sacramento Executive Airport.  He completed his first solo flight on 6/11/05 and on 3/8/06 he obtained his Private Pilot Certificate.  He is now studying for his Instrument Rating and Commercial Certificate.
